Yesterday, I learned (via
sk4p) that in Columbus, Ohio, there is a topiary garden that takes the form of Seurat's famous painting, La Grande Jatte.

This is the painting, though I'm sure many of you are familiar with it. It was painted around 1885, and was part of the Impressionist school (roughly). The artists of the time were interested in exploring how the eye processes information; Seurat was specifically interested in the effect achieved by placing two dots of color next to each other. The eye combines the colors in the act of looking so that the artist doesn't necessarily need to. this led to perfecting the art of pointilism, painting exclusively in little dots.
