I don't like that quote. All those things in the list test for the same thing: how one deals with adversity. I would say something like: "You can tell a lot about a person by how they handle losing their luggage, walking through a ghetto, and winning a competition." Then you hit adversity, perceived danger/dealing with those less fortunate, coming into glory or power.
